South Africa has recorded 9 718 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total since the outbreak of the pandemic to 2 377 823.
The country recorded a further 287 COVID-19 related deaths, taking the total fatalities to 69 775.
The NICD in its latest report says, “This increase represents a 26.6% positivity rate. 14 563 847 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors .”
Gauteng still has the most cases in the report with 2 674.
The NICD breaks down the provincial cases, “The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (28%), followed by the Western Cape (25%). KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 14%; Limpopo and Mpumalanga each accounted for 8%; Eastern Cape and North West each accounted for 6%; Free State accounted for 3%; and the Northern Cape accounted for 2% of today’s new cases. ”
