Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga says the education sector is ready to reopen schools on Monday.
She was addressing the media in Pretoria on Saturday on the basic education sector’s response to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the nation on Sunday and to provide clarity on whether schools in South Africa will reopen on Monday.
Motshekga also gave an update on the vandalised schools during the recent unrest in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.
She says the KZN education department submitted a list of schools have been vandalised.
Motshekga says the education sector suffered around R300 million in damages.

Motshekga says the school calendar for the year 2023 has also been published for parents and other stakeholders to comment on.
