Six arrested for murder of Msinga school principal

KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested six suspects for the murder of a 46-year-old school principal from Somashi High School in Msinga, north of the province.
The educator was shot and killed in front of teachers and learners on Friday.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Jay Naicker says the suspects will be charged with murder and the illegal possession of firearms, among other crimes.

They are expected to appear in the Greytown Magistrate Court on Monday.

“The suspects fled with a getaway vehicle which was found on fire a few kilometers from the scene. The men then allegedly hijacked a teacher who was on her way home and fled in her vehicle. Police officers intercepted the vehicle at kwaDolo Reserve in Greytown and six men were arrested. Police seized an R5 rifle two revolvers and 65 rounds of ammunition as well as eight cellphones and the hijacked vehicle. The six men aged between 26 and 38 will be charged for murder, carjacking as well as illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. They will appear in the Greytown Magistrate court on Monday,” Naicker says.

The KwaZulu-Natal Education Department has condemned the principal’s killing.
“We were very saddened and shocked by the killing of a principal in the school premises in full view of the learners and all other teachers. But the latest is that the culprits have been apprehended and they will be appearing in court shortly,” says Department Spokesperson, Muzi Mahlambi.”
